    IGN serves one of the largest audiences of video gamers in the world. We are looking for a Front End Software Engineer to work with our team at our headquarters in San Francisco, CA. As a Senior Software Engineer you will be responsible for working with the team on projects supporting the media business, mentoring engineers, and leading projects focused on delivering our content to our audience through web and non-web applications, APIs and CMS tools.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Leading and/or Managing a team of engineers to build modern API-driven web applications
    • Development of front-end web pages using modern interpreted server-side languages such as PHP, Python, Ruby, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript/jQuery/React
    • Establishing web, front-end, app, API, database, and infrastructure best practices
    • Optimizing performance of the web server tier, front-end applications and working with teammates to discuss improvements to APIs, databases, caching layer, and low-level infrastructure

    Qualifications

    • Strong understanding of JavaScript, its quirks, and workarounds as well as a good understanding of ReactJS or equivalent.
    • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
    • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around such issues
    • Good understanding of browser rendering behavior and performance
    • Familiarity with management and skills related to teamwork and process improvements
    • BS or equivalent in Computer Science or related technical discipline
    • 5+ years experience developing large scale software applications
    • Experience with Linux, git, and modern software development practices such as agile development, test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery
    • Track record solving difficult problems with cross-functional teams
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Experience working with a development community and an open source project a plus
