Overview

Everyday Health, the leading health and wellness digital platform, is looking for a photo editor with a passion for visual storytelling to help inspire people to live their healthiest lives every day.  

If you join the Everyday Health team, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a dynamic, creative, close-knit environment where you can apply and grow your digital and visual storytelling skills. The photo editor, based in our lower Manhattan offices, will work closely with the senior photo editor and the editorial staff to help reach our audience wherever they are in their health journey.  Candidates should have a strong interest in photo research and a solid working knowledge of Photoshop.  Some design experience is preferred.  There will be a possibility of shooting simple stills and portraits in-house.  

Responsibilities

  • Research and source images from multiple stock agencies and other online databases with an emphasis on health, science, lifestyle, food, celebrity and editorial news
  • Collaborate closely with senior photo editor on image concepts
  • License and prepare images for the web including retouching, collaging, compositing, color correction, and image optimization
  • Administrative duties include tracking budgets, processing invoices and keywording the digital image library

Qualifications

  • A keen eye and sophisticated visual taste with the ability to recognize images that maintain the visual continuity between our sites
  • Up-to-date knowledge of photo licensing and copyright law
  • Detail-orientated
  • Able to juggle many tasks, meet deadlines, and change gears as needed
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, creative work environment
  • Able to work collaboratively and effectively with others on the editorial team and across the company

 

The ideal candidate must have:

  • 3+ years of web-based photo editing experience
  • College Degree in Photography with some design experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in Photoshop CS6 or above and experience with Excel.
  • Health content experience
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of SEO principles in creating compelling, highly trafficked content
