IGN serves one of the largest audiences of video gamers in the world. We are looking for a Front End Software Engineer to work with our team at our headquarters in San Francisco, CA, responsible for projects supporting the media business, mentoring engineers, building web applications, web APIs, and CMS tools.

Responsibilities

  • Development of front-end web pages using modern interpreted server-side languages such as PHP, Python, or Ruby and standard HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers to build modern API-driven web applications with a focus on the Front End display / interactions, in particular JavaScript implementations for IGN.com
  • Establishing web, front-end, and infrastructure best practices

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of JavaScript, its quirks, and workarounds as well as a good understanding of ReactJS or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
  • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around such issues
  • Familiarity with JavaScript module loaders, such as Require.js and AMD
  • Familiarity with front-end build tools, such as Grunt and Gulp.js
  • Good understanding of browser rendering behavior and performance
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years experience developing large scale software applications
  • Experience with Linux, git, and modern software development practices such as agile development, test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery
  • Track record solving difficult problems with cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with a development community and an open source project a plus
